Neither an ending nor a beginning

As you may recall, my last day at my last job didn't happen. Two weeks ago, I was at work on the Monday of my last week. The next day, when I wasn't scheduled to be at work, the company announced that it was closing down. I rushed into work late that afternoon, gathered my remaining items, handed in my badge, and went home.

Today was supposed to be my first day at my new job. The plan was for me to work today, take tomorrow off, not work the following two days, and make up those "vacation" 16 hours during my first few weeks on the job. That's not happening either.

Saturday night, it looked like we'd have a snow storm to contend with this morning. So my new boss wrote to ask if I would consider coming in on Sunday afternoon so that we could both work from home today. Yesterday, I spent a little over four hours with my new boss, with no one stopping by (until the very end) and no phones ringing -- in short, we had no interruptions whatsoever and spent some very productive time together.

I got a good overview of the work for the next six months, at least. I understand some of the high-level challenges we'll be facing as we change process and tools while continuing to pump out immense quantities of documentation. I know where my office is. I can actually find it in the maze of loops-within-loops of hallways (I think). I'll probably stop by today to pick up my badge and perhaps deliver some of my homey office items.

What would typically be my first day at work when I'd have my orientation and be introduced to coworkers will be my second actual day of work. Never a dull moment.

And the snow storm? Not so bad. We're still seeing light flakes, but the driveway and pathways are clear, Robert has gone off to work, and I'm going to try to go swimming in a few minutes, assuming the pool is open. Then to work this afternoon.
