So I had three visits to the dentist in 24 hours and no frequent flier points to show for it. However, I got a couple of hugs from the dental assistant, shared a few laughs with her, and had the opportunity to tell both her and the dentist how very happy I am to be working with them now. Oh, and I am the proud possessor of a permanently cemented brand-new shiny golden crown (wait was that the fifth day of Christmas?).
The appointments for my next crown and for step one of the implant are now scheduled. I'll have even better dental insurance next year, and I'm good to go, at least mouth-wise.
So after the second appointment of the day, I dashed off to Cambridge. I realized that there'd be some drinking going on, and though I didn't really want to drink, I did want to socialize and have the opportunity to say goodbye. (It sounds odd, but there's a bar on the first floor of our office building. It's really the bar that's attached to the hotel next door. To get to it, you need to go outside, but not out from under cover. Very convenient.)
So I talked to the head of HR and the VP of engineering and the CFO. I caught up with a few other people. I packed the rest of my office. I left my personal card for a few people who hadn't finished packing up yet. And then I went to the bar and hung out with some of the folks. Amusingly, the former Chief Technical Officer had been planning for a while to come into the city this afternoon to have drinks with a few people. So he was there too, amidst a larger crowd than he'd been expecting to see. No drinks for me, just pleasant talks, slightly sad goodbyes, a lot of hugs, and then two hours after I'd arrived, I was back on the T again, making my way home.
And for some reason I can't quite explain (maybe it was the hard swim this morning?) I'm bone-tired.
