(injury; hurt). Koa kitty has a wawa. I'm somewhat distressed. She's a wide-track, aka a polydactyl, meaning she has extra toes. She *hates* it when I touch her anywhere near her feet. Of course, I've been trying to work my way up to touching her toes in a loving and happy way so that eventually I can cut her claws. In the meantime, she has grown some exceedingly long nails.
I've discovered that on her left paw, she has a claw between her thumb and first finger. I also happen to know that on her right paw, she has an almost vestigial claw in the same spot -- just a little flap of skin. Unfortunately, the extra claw on the left paw has grown so much that it seems to be poking into her. She's not limping or anything, but this afternoon I noticed that she's bitten her paw raw in that area. Poor girl.
This means that I need to call the vet and strategize with him. As relaxed as Koa has gotten, she still objects to being picked up. (Yes, I continue to work on that too, but it's very slow.) I've heard that my vet will let me give her some sort of tranquilizer so that I can get her into the carrier. I assume that if I can get her into his office, he will take over and handle the rest. But then there's after-care to worry about, yet another issue to strategize on. Yuck.
Meanwhile, Koa continues to be loving and affectionate and adorably cute.
