Since Koa's homecoming, we've kept her separated from Theo by closing her into the addition. Koa has a couple of rooms to roam around in; Theo has the rest of the house.
Theo has been sitting outside the bedroom door crying. Koa sometimes runs to the door when she hears Theo crying. When he's quiet, I often open the door to find him wedged up against it.
Understandably, this arrangement is growing slightly tiresome for the humans. Koa's paw is healed enough that she can run around a little. So this morning, I left the bedroom door open.
I imagined a joyous reunion -- a little cry of recognition, some sniffing, the throwing of front paws around each other, cries of "Paisano", kisses on both cheeks, and never the twain should part again. It was not to be. All we heard was Theo hissing. Koa retreated a bit, then went back for more. Theo hissed until she toodled back down the hallway to her lair. I closed the door, separating them again.
A little while ago, I left the bedroom door open a crack. Theo pushed the door open a little further. He stared into the room. Koa stared back. Suddenly, he withdrew, probably headed downstairs.
I suspect the reunion will be slow and slightly painful for all concerned. *sigh*
