Many people were sick of winter weeks ago. Some people were sick of winter by the time January rolled around. I just try to roll with it. Spring will be here soon enough. The snowdrops have been up for weeks. Already, sprouts of other spring bulbs are shooting up from the ground, though I have not yet smelled that delicious warm spring dirt scent yet.
Today started off rainy, then turned to snow -- big slow flakes that covered our lawns but not our driveways or roads -- then back to rain again. It's been hovering near freezing all day. The wood stove continues to crank away.
Some may reassure themselves that this is winter's last laugh. Not quite, I think. I've seen snow on daffodils, and rarely, on lilacs in mid-May. Winter and spring will continue to battle it out, I'm sure.
